A Welfare Limerick

The Department for Working and Pensions.
Have policies too cruel to mention.
They publish their lies
In "compassionate" guise
Yet keep all of us living in tension.

  3. There was a young pillock from Eton,
Who really should know when he's beaten.
If he screws up much more,
    Even Liz will be poor
And old Pickles won't have as much meat on!

  4. I am sick and disabled but not beaten
And glad I did not go to Eton
What a bore it must be to climb up that tree
And forever live life as a Cretten

  5. An ATOS assessor said 'You're
In receipt of a miracle cure
    So pick up your bed
    And work till you're dead...
The rest would do well do insure'

  7. There was a young fellow called Nick,
Who made a bad pact with a pr*ck,
    Once cared for the poor
    But sadly no more
His conscience should make him feel sick.

  9. The welfare bill must be far cheaper,
and the cuts we make must go deeper

  10. The Tories wants the end of welfare
Who gets destroyed they don't care

The press says we're swinging the lead
To keep the money they'd prefer us all dead

Everyday they make up more lies
Now the sick and disabled Britain does despise

Because they are so cruel heartless and evil,
I hope Cameron and Co get incurably ill

Everyday the Tories destroy the poorly
So everyone of them deserves to die slowly.

  11. Lord Freud said his great-grandfather 'worked while having cancer' (of the jaw and mouth) with pride!
Has no-one pointed out to him that there were no sickness benefits in Sigmund's day so it wouldn't have been a choice but a necessity. Stupid boy, needs his head testing - and his dodgy 'spin' on his own family history.

Couldn't fit that into limerick form :-)

  13. Mr Cameron is a nasty man
He harasses the sick as hard as he can.
    If you're disabled,
    not well in the head
He'll expect you to work until you drop dead.

The truth is that if they had been so sick that they couldn't get out of bed in the morning then 'back in the day' he would have died from starvation due to sincerely not being able to work.

This is why our welfare system was created - or one of the reasons.

Do people not think that there were those who died because they were disabled and so impoverished from not being able to work? Those that did manage jobs here while dealing with disability before the welfare system was introduced would have greatly reduced their life expectancy in my opinion. It's like those who have the gall to tell me to get a grip and get a job or those who compare my life to that of someone in Africa.

The thing they don't realise is that I wouldn't have survived past a certain age if I lived in one of those countries where the governments don't take care of their own people - as many DO die whether that's out of AIDs, poverty, disability, disease or any other whole host of reasons.

I dislike the comparison angle anyway - it's not an argument that can ever hold any water. Comparing 'then' to 'now' is impossible to do because we apply the same standards in which we live in now to back then - when things were very different.
