New Report Slams ESA

I don't have much interenet, so can only post this link, but if you read nothing else today, read this report from Sheffield Hallam university slamming ESA and vindicating everything campaigners have been saying.

These guys used to be welfare hawks, they supported ESA when Labour set it up

This is a BIG deal http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/8874589/1-million-to-lose-incapacity-benefits-under-Coalition-reforms.html

And in the Telegraph too!

  2. again what is GENUINE need for support that can be so wide ranging. we all know its a cost cutting exercise so target less fortunate to begin with.

  3. am i less needy because i have a fluctuating condition does that mean im not in GENUINE NEED OF SUPPORT. I would still like mr milliband to stand up and say the previous govt got it wrong with the esa, atos test that would be a start

  4. Go on Mr M, bit the bullet and say we got it wrong last time then look Mr C in the eye and say we have a better plan maybe that will stop him from saying how they inherited all the shit from last govt

  5. Ed Milliband started an Early Day Motion in Parliament in March to have the new ESA regulations "annulled". Signed by 140 mostly Labour MPs.

What has he or the Labour Party done about these so called medicals since? He needs to be called up on this.

  6. It never ceases to amaze me at how much costly media air time is taken up by bland and irrelevant media “news” sometimes this hogs the headlines for weeks even months and in some cases comes back again and again over years when far more important issues and events are ignored.

  7. Grayling has prevented the Work Programme providers from publishing their statistics.

They are complaining they are not getting enough people through and have urged him to speed up the Work Capability Assessments.

They have also said they are being sent too many people who clearly are not fit for work.

Obviously the Work Providers are getting worried they are not making enough money yet and want more people shoved through the mill asap.

  8. Of course the Atos assessament will not work as they are only interested in writing people off disability benefit, but one of the most worryng aspect is the fact that it will make people with serious health problem be afraid to get better,I will not be surpraised if people will stop taking medication,or will out of desperation, do their best, not to improve , being afraid that they will have been put off the DLA and been put on job seekers allowance, while still ill! When I mentioned the "cameron final solution" for disabled and unemployed I was Joking but now I a start to think it is not soo far fetched

  9. Mr cameron says in 2014 everything will be clear abaut his programs of benefit riform, ofcourse he just hope to win the next election to bring more misery to the most vulnerable part of our society.but let's no be to harsh on him he is doing his bit, when he goes on holiday he use easy jet

  13. I have have a strong feeling - not just here, but anywhere comments are posted - that anonymity dilutes the message. It says, in effect (and I accept that this might just be me, but I doubt it), that "I'm willing to say this, but I'm not willing to stand by it."

And @MRadclyffe - an FoI request is no guarantee of getting the information - they can be declined for a variety of reasons.

  14. Have you got this report as these guys have a tendency to speak with a forked tongue. They said DLA was was used primarily to top up IB for claimants of working age and said that if the target of taking 1m off IB/ESA was to be achieved DLA would have to be cut. They were well aware of govt targets in that respect and provided "evidence" showing people on IB were not on the whole thinking about looking for work. I would like to read the report before I make a judgement and will be shocked and surprised if the have done a complete U-turn

  15. What he seems to be saying is that he agrees with the 1 million but they are not doing it in the right way. What the heck did he think the govt Labour or Condem were going to do for goodness sake with ammo he gave them. Did he really think it would be done by regenerating areas so there would be suitable jobs and employers to provide work for sick and disabled people who had been previously classified as unfit for work...do me a favour. If it can be used all well and good but it smacks of the "too far too fast...but we'd do the same" baloney

  16. Sadly the world has changed the banking crises has changed the view of disabled people, lets hope once this has settled the new jobs providers are as good as they think they are because poverty and hunger is not the best way to live.

I was at my jobs centre this week nothing, and I mean not a single job.

  17. Brave New World's ironic title derives from Miranda's speech in Shakespeare's The Tempest, Act V, Scene I:[2]

    O wonder!

How many goodly creatures are there here! How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world!
That has such people in it!

  20. Another couple to add to Calum's List.

An ex- army man with mental health problems and his learning disabled wife have committed suicide. Neighbours say because they couldn't face another hard winter with so little income.

Helen was refused ESA because she could not proove her learning disability. She was then refused Jobseekers because the Job Centre said she was incapable of work. They had spent months trying to get a diagnosis from experts for Helen. They featured in a video for a food charity - where they had a round trip of 12 miles walk to get a food parcel once a week to keep them going and lived in one room of their house as they could not afford heating.

    So, so sad and appalling.

  21. that needs to go off the Anne begg mp JAN who has asked to be kept up to date about any deaths arising from the DWP

    ReplyDelete
  22. Is this true?

If it is it might explain the reluctance of the BBC to mention the disaster of the ESA medicals in its recent documentaries.

The BBC has a 'technology framework contract' with Atos which has supplied 2,074 iPhones and Macs under a 'third party' deal.

I hope people will post this tragedy wherever they can. This couple must not have died in vain.

  25. This says it all
Professor Steve Fothergill, co-author of the report, said: "The large numbers that will be pushed off incapacity benefits over the next two to three years are entirely the result of changes in benefit rules - the introduction of a new tougher medical test and, in particular, the more widespread application of means-testing from next April onwards. The reduction does not mean that there is currently widespread fraud, or that the health problems and disabilities are anything less than real.
"The estimates show that the Coalition Government is presiding over a national welfare reform that will impact principally on individuals and communities outside its own political heartlands.

It's not looking at all good Jan there is going to be many more finding themselves in a similar situation plus the likes of myself who are involved to deeply in a mental way this is personally causing me a vast amount of stress and i cant switch off i hadn't realised how the deaths of others was going to effect me so badly it doesn't look good at all from my angle or any angle

I(DEATH)S is not at all worried I'm told and is pressing on regardless our only hope will be from the police if it gets to bad but by then the damage will be done and all will be lost

  27. This morning I had a call from DWP asking if I was happy to have my benefit cut from £294 every 2 weeks to £254 ,because when I went to the job centre for my referral I did ask them to revise their decision to put me in the ESA work releted group, because the extra £40 are allowed to you only if you accept the referral. This is illegal as the law says you should be payed the same emount you recived when in incame support, and should not be releted to any referral. This ESA reform is at best nive at worst diabolical,is just something been hurried without much tought and has the only objective to cut the benefit to everybody in complete disregard of their condition.Keep complaining keep appealing write to everybody don't let them get away with it

When you find Party let me know, because I cannot find one.

Although they state we are not cheats or scroungers it's what they believe we are.

Two people have died on with a learning disability, problem is of course learning disabilities are not seen as being a disability, all learning disabled cannot now poly under the para-Olympic games, forget the DDA, I have had a learning disability all my life Dyslexia it has caused me a great deal of problems, my grandson is also autistic but has been told it's not serious enough to be classed as a disability, but of course doctors state it's highly unlikely he will work within a normal work environment, because of his mood swings, refused to even be classed disabled.

Like it or not the world is changing and we the disabled are going to be seen in terms of money, to much money is being spent of welfare, hence Welfare Reforms, if we were all on JSA none of this would be happening.

  31. There is no money for the UK sick and disabled because it needs to be sent to other poor countries in Aid.

According to the data provided by the Swiss bank, India has more black money than rest of the world combined. India topping the list with almost $1500 Billion black money in Swiss banks, followed by Russia $470 Billion, UK $390 Billion, Ukraine $100 Billion and China with $96 Billion.

It’s embarrassing for any country to top the list of black money holders. The money which belongs to the nation and its citizens is stashed in the illegal personal accounts of corrupt politicians, IRS, IPS officers and industrialists.

  32. Kleptocracy
Is a form of political and government corruption where the government exists to increase the personal wealth and political power of its officials and the ruling class at the expense of the wider population, often without pretence of honest service. This type of government corruption is often achieved by the embezzlement of state funds.

  33. That's why people who are disabled get free NHS treatment, up until New labour, we were building about 400,000 council houses. Labour like all political parties rule they rule this country, we then live within the rules laid down by government, it has always be a power base.

ANON, Black money not sure what you mean by black money, if your talking about hidden Bank accounts well it depends we have two rules here those that pay tax and those that do not, big business tend to pay less tax, because they have accountants, or people living in low tax countries like Lord Sainsbury. We have Non Doms here who now pay a fee not to pay tax, like Lord Paul, they pay £29,000 a year to get away without paying maybe 500,000 in tax.

The world is a place for the rich sadly.

That is why these countries are so poor as the wealth is with only a select group of people and everyone in their country live in slum like conditions

both India and china will never be top dog as they both don't understand quality and quality control so yes they will be wealthy but there countries will continue to go nowhere and therefore I'm out

  35. the sick and disabled Robert in my mind will be killed off in one or another over the next 50 years

I would like to ask you who and what the politician represent today. There are not more ideal or idealogy, not left not right not center they are interchangeable, look at Mr C sissor hands and Mr M they look the same and sound the same. What and who they represent I never thought to say that we start missing Tony Blair

  37. David Cameron and ed milliband are the same with the same so called education they are not that educated by a long shot they have no subjects in where they can talk worlwide on and be respected by there peers

There are typical estate agents and from the seventies double glazing salesman and nouthing more

Had i been on the tv podium before the election in my sir David attenborough style of speaking i would be the prime minister today with a full majority and that's for certain

I have always run rings round any politician even my own mp will tell you that

Why and how can you do that?

Dead simple you speak from experience only so that it comes across truthful at all times plus you stick to what we are all capable of and that's common sense

Anne begg get your act together and tell IDS what's happening if you cant then do the right thing and stand down
