Beautiful Words to Soothe the Abuse

I'm not going to wish you all a Happy New Year.

If you're anything like me, a very long illness tends to erode the goodwill attached to the "Tomorrow everything will be perfect" illusion.

Today, everything will be as good as I can make it. Today, I will be as strong as crohn's allows. Today I will take the blows and live with them.

I won't link to the blow this morning brought. I won't give the Mail or Mr Miliband any more attention than they deserve. I will share this with you instead.

Only you will understand what it really means. May it remind us all how astonishing, resilient and tenacious we are. Just to have lived this long and still have hope.

"There is a brokenness out of which comes the unbroken,
a shatteredness out of which blooms the unshatterable.

There is a sorrow beyond grief which leads to joy
and a fragility out of whose depths emerges strength.

There is a hollow space too vast for words
through which we pass with each loss,
out of whose darkness we are sanctioned into being.

There is a cry deeper than all sound
whose serrated edges cut the heart as we break open
to the place inside which is unbreakable and whole,
while learning to sing."

  1. What baffles me is how politicians seem to believe that the disabled, the sick and the unemployed do not have a vote. We do. And they will discover this to their cost.

  2. Sue, Some very strong words in that poem and just like me you must be feeling what have we all done to deserve this treatment from the con/dems and now labour. You are right of course we have to be stronger than ever now but i cant help feeling alone knowing that people with no long term conditions or for that matter life threatening conditions will be forgotton lose their homes their dignity their families just to save this country some money, if ever money was the root of all evil then were do these so called caring we will look after the vulverable people fit on the list

  3. Not only do we have the vote but so do our family and friends who have to live with our illness and disabilities which in turn affects those who love us and whom we love

To me its a case of politicising any issue then the main parties set out to compete on who can save more money then the other no matter what the cost to society !

  4. First they said there were a few cheats and villains in the system and set about to spend huge sums of money on finding such cheats, when that did not work they then set up new rules and regulations and pushed the goal posts back and in this manner the main stream parties have out bid one another on how to cause the most misery to the disabled in the name of hunting for cheats and finally they devised a campaign that the media have over done at the cost of those they are suppose to be helping !

  5. Ed seems to fail to realise there's no point voting Labour if the policies are overtly Tory. Many will leave Labour because of this.

  7. If the Greens had a representative in my area I would have vote for them now. I hope that by the time the next election comes around there will be an alternative party offering real solutions because I cannot distinguish between this lot. I agree Sue, it's just another day. Labour have jumped on the Tory bandwagon.

Together, in our sorrows and suffering, we will emerge strong and whole. Together, our quiet endurance will become a roar that will echo the length of the land. Never give up. Never never give up. The truth always finds a way of revealing itself.

  8. @Bill , I was a Labour member and activist, organised campaigns, knocked on doors, posted tens of thousands of leaflets over 20 years through ill health and good health, despite my wife having a serious illness that required regular spells in hospital.I did it all because I believed in the party, I believed Labour was the sea wall that prevented the Tory tide consuming the sick, the vulnerable and the powerless . During last year's Labour leadership contest I watched in horror as all the candidates outbid each other on who could ramp up the "scrounger" rhetoric the most, then I resigned from the party .I feel cheated and betrayed , I feel used by people who have joined the party for a political career , people who could just as easily have joined the Tories to defend the 'squeezed middle. I thought Labour was about defending the squeezed poor , the voiceless . Now I'm putting all the time I wasted helping creatures like Blair,Byrne and Miliband into the fight to give the disabled, carers and every other targeted minority a voice. Ten years ago it was asylum seekers and now it's benefit recepients , well I'm still a socialist , the Labour Party left me, not the other way around.Keep fighting....

  11. " They just dont get it"
Its been used a few times in the House by a certain leader, but im afraid he Just dont get it either. All we are asking for is the Atos assessments to be stopped and fully reviewed. DLA not to be become PIP etc etc ..

Currently venting my spleen. I don't expect to be heard, but will that stop me shouting? Hell no.

Also I'd like to third Brian's sentiment about the Labour party leaving *us*. Very well put.
